"BLUE SUNDAY" @ THE TORCH!
The Skyway Blues Band evolved out of the Chico, California music scene, when members of the RHM Band, a classic rock band started by guitarist Roger Campell and singer – guitarist Mike Houar, asked bassist Troy Dye to join RHM in late 2021. Troy was at that time was also a full- time member of the Jeff Pershing Band- which is one of the leading rock and blues bands in the Chico region. Rich White, the present day SBB drummer joined RHM in early 2023. In mid-2023, the RHM Band changed the name of the band to “The Skyway Five”. RHM/The Skyway Five performed though 2023 but due to the players differing music interests, RHM/ The Skyway Five dissolved. Mike, Troy and Rich began to independently focus on blues music. The “Skyway Blues Band” was formed in 2024 and was joined by lead guitarist and vocalist Jeff Pershing.
Jeff's presence and musical leadership energized the SBB. During 2024 and 2025 the band focused on bringing blues Music to the northern California region and performed at pubs, community celebrations, the local county fairs, and veteran’s events. During 2024 – 2026 the band has also seen a number of guest performers who have played on a limited basis for periods of time, including saxophonist Eric Lee, harmonica player Bert Forbush as well as a number of guest guitarists. In 2026, Scott Hitch joined the SBB as its newest full-time member, adding a strong harmonica presence and also sharing vocal duties. In 2026 the SBB focuses on a combination of classic blues as well as southern rock-blues, modern blues and blues originals.
